“Tracking something,” said Winnie-the-Pooh very mysteriously.

Pooh was walking round and round in a circle, thinking of something else, and when Piglet called to him, he just went on walking.

“Hallo!” said Piglet, “what are you doing?”

“Hunting,” said Pooh.

“Hunting what?”

“Tracking something,” said Winnie-the-Pooh very mysteriously.

“Tracking what?” said Piglet, coming closer.

“That’s just what I ask myself. I ask myself, What?”

“What do you think you’ll answer?”

“I shall have to wait until I catch up with it,” said Winnie-the-Pooh. “Now, look there.” He pointed to the ground in front of him. “What do you see there?”

Let the fun begin.  Any master trackers or puzzle solvers out there? Would anyone like to try to solve the mystery of this very cool (I think) track I took a picture of in my yard last week? Just leave a comment with your educated guesses.

First one to get it right gets a secret email address to an artist blogger who will draw your face if you send him a picture (of your face), and then post it on his blog.

Hint: More clues can be found in at least one of my previous posts.

    How about a peacock?

It’s an owl or other bird of prey swooping down on some poor little thing that was making its way through the fresh snow.

Hard to make out those tracks as the scale is hard to guess as is its track. Some sort of small rodent, I’d suspect. Any better shots of the tracks of the land animal that suddenly became airborne?

Some critter was strolling in the snow. A large bird - either hawk or eagle - came down and grabbed it and flew away.

Kittah won’t be home for dinner tonight. :(

Great guesses so far! But no winner yet. I didn’t think about the swooping down idea. If you look closely there isn’t any hair or even sign of a struggle.

You’d think the swooper and its prey would have left more of a mark in the snow.

    Keep guessing!

I’m guessing by the name of the picture, that its a pheasant. =)

    Ding Ding Ding!

We have a winner. Yep, a pheasant. Not just any pheasant. This pheasant. I just wish I had a better picture of him. He’s beautiful. Walked to that spot under the crabapple tree (in the foreground) and then took off flying.

Thanks Sean, I’ll be emailing you your “prize” later on today.

it looks like a person shuffled through the snow, without lifting their feet, until they reached the end of the linear track, where they proceeded to make a semi-circle of indentations in the snow with a snow shovel…well that’s what it appear like to me.

Some sort of tire was lying in the snow and was rolled away.

but let me refute my own theory:
    - the circular marks aren’t in a perfect circle.
    - where are the tracks of the person who rolled it away?

Hmmmm… Not so elementary, my dear Watson.

Probably a hawk or an owl or a falcon grabbing a mouse or some other kind of rodent

    Peterandhare–I love Pooh.

Jandazza–Thanks. Coming from a “photography whore” that means something. Heh. Wasn’t trying to be stunning. It is what it is.

it seems insanely obvious to me, that someone was in a rocket pewered wheel barrel, when the wheel got stuck, sending the little kid into the ground. the poor kid Obviously he folowled the whell barrel tracks back.
