Yeah, we’re corny nature lovers

Remember when I said we were a little quirky? Well, I really wasn’t kidding. These signs are on a little road within the city of St. Croix Falls. It’s a road that services homes and traffic tucked between the school district and the industrial park.

On this road is a little pond.

On the pond, obviously are some ducks, and geese, and other wet loving creatures. But we particularly like ducks . . . and snowmobiles.

This sign needs a fresh coat of paint, but it should read, “Tame (not lame) ducks on road. Please don’t hit them.”

This is a structure our most loyal duck lovers have built on the pond. Obviously geese don’t read.

On a slightly different note, despite being a bit odd (in our charming and lovable way), we also happen to live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. As this blog matures, I’ll be posting some pictures of the beauty as well.

If you’d like to see a sliver of what I’m talking about, read this story. It’s a brief tale of an adventure I had with a friend a couple of weekends ago. And if you read all the way to the bottom, you get picture of some of the beauty I’m talking about–in the background, not so much in the foreground.

It’s a great shot. I only wish I would have posed so that the cold and roaring rapids (which start just to my left) would have been in the background instead.

Looking back, and knowing my skill level–I should have never made it through. And if I would have been the one to get wet, I’m sure I would have frozen to death.

I’ve been kayaking with close to a dozen first timers over the last few years. None have even come close to the innate skill you show in a kayak, Chris. I’m not sure how how you did it, but you managed to herd not one, but two swimming kayakers to safety that day on the St. Croix.
I don’t know if I ever thanked you for that. So I’ll do it now. Thank you.
